Using Entertainment to Improve Education

Why do I still remember every single name of all the characters in a movie I watched when I was only eight years old? Why can I recite word for word what was said in that movie? I keep asking myself these questions, and I’m sure you might be asking yourself the same questions. It is no new fact that kids learn better in when playing. The challenge is for schools to find a way to incorporate play into their curriculum, and even into their style of teaching Children.  This might just be the key to unlocking the most amazing abilities in Children.
As a kid I would watch some movies a few times, and in no time, I could repeat what the actors say from the beginning to the end.  Sometimes Children display the most amazing qualities when playing, resilience, leadership, bravery, courage, confidence; all these are traits that can, with the help of play can be developed in kids.
There are numerous examples of the way kids have defeated all odds to attain success during play. A stubborn opponent in a video game challenge would bring out the most amazing traits in kids. I remember if I had a formidable opponent in my favorite game, I would go back and practice for hours and then come back to play that same opponent and I would keep practicing until I was able to defeat the opponent.
Music is another great entertainment tool that can be harnessed in education. I was able to memorize a list of fifty chemical elements because it was converted to a song, and I could point to lot of other circumstances that I had used music to get past difficult tasks. Music has been purported to have affected a whole generation, affect minds sets, changed moods, and even created new cultures. Movements have been created because of Music, the Rastafarian movement originated from Jamaica as a result of a certain popular Jamaican Artiste, and that is just one of several examples.
How then can we harness all the advantages of Entertainment in Education? I feel it’s something every Government interested in education, Schools, and even parents should ask themselves. That way the power of entertainment can be properly harnessed to the advantage of education.
The possible entertainment forms available to education are endless, and I feel their importance should not be ignored. I remember all the mapping of the nervous system till today because we were able to compare it to a popular cartoon character- Voltron.
It amazing the numerous ways we can use entertainment in aiding Education, have you noticed how you can compare the human heart to drum set, if you’ve not then look at both closely it will amaze you what similarities they do have. The question now is, are up to the task? I’m sure we are.
